C-Suite Outlook 2022: Environmental, Social & Governance
For the year ahead, what are the environmental, social, and governance priorities of business leaders around the world?
This year’s annual survey of the C-suite provides fascinating ESG insights. For instance, the survey findings confirm the shift from stockholder- to multistakeholder capitalism is underway: CEOs globally see rising expectations from stakeholders as far more of a challenge than stockholder activism.
Moreover, CEOs are making advancing economic opportunity and equality their top-ranked ESG-Social priority this year. And for US CEOs, especially, advancing racial equality is also top of mind. When it comes to addressing sustainability, the sense of urgency ranges across the C-suite. Globally, CEOs rank sustainability seventh as an issue to focus on in the coming year. Human capital leaders rank it third, while CFOs rank it tenth.
These differing views reinforce why it’s critical for CEOs to build greater consensus in the C-suite on approaching sustainability. CEO and C-suite priorities certainly vary by company. But, we believe this report can prompt new ideas and offer insights for what’s ahead into this year’s challenges—and more importantly, the opportunities. You’ll come away with several strategies and tactics to succeed in a global marketplace.
